For every sort of Dad.
There are people who maintain that fathers are difficult to buy for.
We disagree.
The trouble is asking them.
Ask Dad what he'd like for Father's Day and you'll generally receive one of three responses:
“Nothing.”
“Don't waste your money.”
Or the particularly helpful, “I don't mind.”
Right.
So this year, we're bypassing Dad entirely.
Instead, we've assembled our Father's Day gift guide according to the sort of Dad you're dealing with.

THE RELAXED DAD
He's not late. He's simply operating on a different timetable.
The Relaxed Dad appreciates comfortable shoes, a good shirt, an old favourite cap and weekends without an unnecessarily detailed itinerary.
For him, choose something equally unfussy: a soft leather wallet, comfortable footwear, an easy everyday bag or a belt that'll become an old favourite.
THE WEEKEND-AWAY DAD
This Dad likes to go places.
He may also have strong opinions about which route you should have taken to get there.
Give him a proper leather travel bag.
Something substantial enough for weekends away, road trips and the occasional escape somewhere with unreliable phone reception.
Good leather is particularly suited to travelling. The odd scratch isn't a disaster; it's part of the story.
Pack it. Use it. Take it somewhere.
Repeat for the next twenty years.
THE OUTDOORS DAD
You know the one.
Weather forecast looking questionable?
Excellent.
The Outdoors Dad would generally rather be somewhere involving a track, a shed, a paddock, a boat or at least enough mud to justify his footwear.
This is not the man for anything precious.
Think sturdy leather boots, a proper belt, leather gloves and things designed to improve rather than deteriorate when they're actually used.
THE WELL-DRESSED DAD
Claims not to care terribly much about clothes.
Curiously, however, he can identify precisely which of his brown shoes are appropriate for dinner.
Give this man the good stuff.
Beautiful leather shoes. A proper belt. A handsome wallet. Perhaps a leather work bag or satchel if you're feeling particularly generous.
Classic things he'll use for years and which won't suddenly look ridiculous next season.
We're rather fond of those.
THE DAD WHO HAS EVERYTHING
Ah.
Him.
Every family has one.
Fortunately, “has everything” rarely means his wallet couldn't do with replacing.
Look at the things he uses every single day. The belt that's seen better decades. The wallet being held together through sheer force of personality. The gloves he can only find one of.
Replace something ordinary with a beautifully made version of it.
No novelty required.
