HOT AUGUST JAZZ IS TAKING OVER NORTH HOBART THIS SUNDAY

North Hobart is about to get a little louder.

This Sunday, 30 August, Hot August Jazz returns to North Hobart for its 22nd year, bringing an enormous line-up of live jazz to venues up and down the neighbourhood.

And seeing as all of this is happening practically on our doorstep, it seemed rather rude not to join in.

So, in a rare and rather jazzy Sunday appearance, Lake Leather North Hobart will be open from 11am–3pm.

You'll find us on the corner of Elizabeth and Strahan Streets, right amongst it all.

A VERY JAZZY SUNDAY IN NORTH HOBART

Hot August Jazz has become something of a North Hobart institution.

From noon until midnight, musicians will take over 11 venues across the neighbourhood, with everything from big band swing and traditional jazz to Latin, funk, bebop, contemporary Australian jazz and things considerably harder to categorise.

The 2026 program includes local musicians, big bands, emerging performers and some wonderfully named ensembles. The Black Swans of Trespass, anyone?

Best of all, the festival is free.

So you can wander Elizabeth Street, follow whichever sound takes your fancy, stop somewhere for something to eat and make an afternoon of it.

Which is precisely how Sundays ought to work, really.

AND YES, WE'LL BE OPEN

Our North Hobart store isn't usually open on Sundays, but Hot August Jazz seemed worthy of an exception.

We'll be opening the doors from:

11AM–3PM
SUNDAY 30 AUGUST
LAKE LEATHER NORTH HOBART
CORNER OF ELIZABETH & STRAHAN STREETS

Pop in before the music starts, between sets, or whenever your wander up Elizabeth Street happens to bring you past.

We'll have all the usual Lake Leather suspects waiting for you: beautiful leather bags, wallets, boots, shoes, winter accessories and plenty of things you absolutely did not intend to buy when you left the house that morning.

Funny how that happens.

MAKE A DAY OF IT

If you've been looking for an excuse to spend a Sunday wandering around North Hobart, we'd say this is a fairly convincing one.

The official Hot August Jazz program runs from noon right through until midnight, with performances spread across venues including the Queens Head Hotel, Uniting Church, Providence, Angelika Bar, Raincheck Lounge, Willing Wine Bar, Capital, Boodle Beasley, Van Zanten Brewhouse, Room for a Pony and the Crescent Hotel.

In other words, there is an awful lot of jazz to get through.

We'll leave the musical side of proceedings to the professionals.
