We know what we are looking for when it comes to sourcing quality leather goods, genuine full-grain leather and authentic manufacturing. We want you to be able to shop with confidence when you visit our stores, knowing you will always find genuine leather sold with genuine love for what we do.
Unique - every piece of leather is unique. Every hide comes with its own story; from its life in the paddock, through its tanning process, through to the hands that create the beautiful pieces we sell in our stores. We love these unique stories and the unique beauty of every piece we have in our collection. We love the perfect imperfections found in every piece of full grain leather and the stories these tell. You know that when you visit our stores you will find a unique curation of quality leather goods from all over the world. We do the leg work so that you don’t have to.
Original - we love the part of our job that involves the travel, the chat, the discovery of new suppliers; the original pieces with innovative stories behind them. To find original designs and concepts and to bring them home to Tasmania for you.
Just as every piece of genuine leather is unique in its grain, marks and imperfections (telling the story of the animal who originally wore it), every leather item is an original. These unique characteristics of each piece of leather make every bag one of a kind. We are proud of what we do here at Lake Leather and aim to keep these tenets in mind as we create and curate our collection - Genuine, Unique and Original. Having grown from humble beginnings over the past 40 years, we are very proud to be still growing today.
Our exciting new venture of The Tasmanian Slipper Company, which we are planning to launch in the winter of 2020, is definitely keeping us on our (warm, sheepskin clad) toes. We are getting out and about to more events around our island home here in beautiful Tasmania. We attended our first AGFEST in 2019 and are very happy to be confirmed as displaying again there in 2020. We are hoping to get out and about more and more and we are looking into the many opportunities on the calendar around Tassie. We are very lucky to be based here where there is such a vibrant and creative community of independent artists, craftspeople and free spirits, and vibrant entrepreneurs offering showcases around the state to promote these fabulous small businesses.
With the launch of our website and online store in late 2019 we are trying to keep our eyes on our roots. We hope that as we embark upon these new adventures, we will always remain true to our roots. Our ethos has been and always will be, just like the leather goods we sell: Genuine, Unique and Original.
