Autumn at Lake Leather
Autumn is my favourite season. That slow exhale of Mother Nature after the crazy scramble of summer, to squeeze as much life as possible into the short season while the warmth of the sun lasts. The fruit-laden branches heavy with their years’ work; the blushing leaves turning from green to orange to red; the misty mornings and cold crisp evenings with big bright blue days in between. Perhaps my favourite thing is the style of cold weather - the excuse to get my scarves and hats out and layer up again. I love autumn winter leather clothing and all of the fashions that go with it.
As the season slows down, we have been busy as bees here at Lake Leather.
After a slow start to the season, our beautiful winter warmers have been coming in thick and fast. We are jam packed with winter boots, hats, gloves and scarves, lots of snuggly knitwear for guys and girls ready for the cold weather. We have been expanding our range of seasonal goods for the boys, with a bigger range of men’s footwear available in store, and some really fine men’s clothing, as you can see in the images below. Brodie and Sam are two local gents we were lucky enough to get on board for our recent photoshoot. I have to say, they looked pretty hot dressed in their LL outfits!
Just a few weekends ago we were lucky enough to snaffle the photography services of the very talented Alison Cosker. A Tasmanian native, Alison flew over from Melbourne especially to spend the weekend with us here at LL to do her thing behind the lense. We were keen to keep it real, keep it local, keep it authentic. We asked a local land owner from Evandale if we could get down on his property by the South Esk River between Evandale and Perth. Alison’s brother hooked us up with his buddy Rudy Valentino, proprieter of Valentino Safe Co. of Lilydale, to use his fabulous 1966 Bedford truck. Our models for the days included Evandale staff member Katee, local chaps Brodie and Sam, who Alison knows and happened
to run into on the day at lunchtime, and a local aspiring model called Mikala whose angelic face you may have seen on our Insta feed once or twice. The days were long, the weather threatening, the light magical - we were so lucky the gods smiled on us in so many ways over that weekend, and the results speak for themselves! Every picture on this blog post was taken on that weekend. There are many more images to come, so follow our social media @lakeleather on FB or Insta for more visual delights.
I am so blessed to be surrounded by so many talented and beautiful people, and owe a big debt of gratitude to everyone involved for this wonderful weekend and the amazing images we managed to create.
Mother’s Day has come and gone for another year. Many mumma bears out there in Tassie and further afield have been treated with some autumn winter leather clothing (and a lot more men's & women's goodies) from us here at Lake Leather. In the image you can see a couple of our beautiful new sheepskin products, made right here on site in our Evandale workshop. We’re pretty pleased with how our slippers are coming along (more on that later) and have been experimenting with some other new patterns. Here you can see one of our glorious sheepskin hot water bottle covers. There is nothing more delightful on a cold evening than curling your toes into the soft wool of a natural sheepskin, warmed from within by a toasty hot water bottle.
We love our mums here at LL, just like you do, and we hope that wherever your mummies are, you got to love and spoil them on their special day. Thanks for everything Mum xxx
Another exciting development as the weather chills off, is the continued improvement in our slipper making skills. As with any new endeavour, practice makes perfect. It has taken a while, with quite a few bumps in the road, but we are finally producing consistently good slippers. We are also
having fun making up batches of limited-edition slides and slippers, like these glorious little raspberry-coloured numbers. I have been calling them the ‘Red Velvet’ slide (although they are definitely sheepskin!). We could only get our hands on a limited number of these skins so when they’re gone, they’re gone, ladies. This week I took a drive up to Gravelly Beach to collect our specially made sign from the guys at Gravelly Beach Metalworks. It is absolutely perfect, and I can’t wait to get it up on the shed. Expect some new sign spam on our socials when we get it up there! The Tasmanian Slipper Company is finally up and running! At this point our warm and toasty slippers are exclusively available at the two Lake Leather shops, but very soon you will be able to purchase them online and from other retailers around Tassie and further afield. Keep reading our blogs for updated info on the upcoming exciting developments from the Tasmanian Slipper Company. Tasmanian winters are cold, but your feet don’t have to be!
You can expect some improvements in our website and social media very soon. We have a couple of new faces joining the LL team in the next weeks which will give our small team a bit of a chance to catch up on things. Many people might not realise how small our team of hardworking girls are here. I have a happy (and slightly over worked) little family of six ladies around me. We open our two shops seven days a week, we keep our two onsite workshops creating beautiful handmade leather goods for you, and I try to keep our website and social media up to date. And of course, not forgetting Gomez our much loved shop dog,
whose business card says ‘Stress Relief Operative’…..
I guess it’s time for me to sign off. It’s been a busy season so far here at LL, and we have a long way to go before we have got our full winter range uploaded onto our website. If I don’t get my head down and crack on it’ll be springtime before we know it and I will have missed the boat for this year!
Until next time xx
