The Origins of Lake Leather
Started by Ian Lake some 30 years ago on the south coast of New South Wales, Lake Leather has grown into the Tasmanian institution it is today - supplying all manner of fine leather goods and accessories around Australia, including: handbags, belts, gloves, hats, wallets, purses, briefcases and much more.
Lake Leather started from humble beginnings on a market stall; it now consists two beautiful shops situated in Evandale and Campbell Town in Tasmania’s Northern Midlands. Well known state-wide for its quality leather goods and leather accessories, Lake Leather is also a popular destination for tourists. We have sent mementos such as handbags, travel luggage and many styles of men’s and women’s footwear home with happy customers from all over the world.
About Ian Lake
Hailing from New South Wales, as a young man Ian would spend his days making belts and dog collars (in between surfing!) and travel the coastal country markets at the weekends, selling his handmade leather goods. He says markets are a great place for crafts people to start. “It teaches you how to sell and it teaches you what people are looking for and what they want, straight across the table, ‘No, this is too dear’, or, ‘Oh this is good value’, or whatever”. We have tried to stay true to these roots, working hard to maintain an authenticity- searching for good quality, style and value for our customers.
